Welcome to Underwood Gifted and Talented Elementary School!

The hallmark of Underwood is a unique program honoring the belief that all children possess gifts and talents. Underwood's skilled faculty is dedicated to developing these gifts and talents by integrating the core curriculm throughout elective and special area classes. Underwood students experience inquiry based investigation with a hands on approach. Students become stakeholders in their personal journey of learning by taking responsibility for their accomplishments by setting personal and academic goals. As students track progress in individual data notebooks, they meet individual challenges but also have time for collaboration with their peers. Teachers encourage discussion, research, and fun while discovering the unique in every child!

All students (Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) and their parents have the opportunity to choose elective courses taught four days a week each quarter. Electives concentrate on an in-depth study in specific subject areas, dance, drama, music, physical education, band, orchestra, technology and foreign languages (Spanish and French). Our electives are multiage (K-2) and (3-5) encouraging collaboration and friendship while achieving mastery of specific NC Standard Course of Study Objectives. Providing challenging electives and motivating lessons, with differentiation in the classroom, help all students become critical thinkers and responsible citizens.

Underwood welcomes you to our learning community. We hope you will join us on your child's exciting journey of exploration and self-discovery!
