What Is Underwood?
Underwood GT Magnet Elementary School is a beautiful school built in 1926 nestled in the heart of Raleigh ’s historic Five Points neighborhood. With around 500 students we maintain a community atmosphere while delivering an exciting magnet program based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Students at Underwood in all grades spend their days engaging in meaningful integrated learning activities including dance, drama, music, French, Spanish, Technology, and so much more. Through regular exploration in all these activities, our students can begin to identify the ways in which they are gifted and talented. Because students can choose up to eight different electives a year, they have many opportunities throughout their elementary school experience to shine!
In addition to our strong magnet program, we pride ourselves on providing effective delivery of the assessed curriculum. Students receive assessment driven direct instruction daily through researched best practices. We also rely on many parent and community volunteers to support student learning. This year we are proud to offer after school learning opportunities for our students as well, including Girls on the Run and Odyssey of the Mind. Students at Underwood are continuously engaged in a learning program that is stimulating and challenging. We encourage you to come and see for your self why our school is special. We offer tours regularly every Tuesday at 10am . If you need an alternative time, of if you have any questions about our school, feel free to contact our principal, Jackie Jordan (jjordan@wcpss.net), or our Assistant Principal, Daphne Nance (dnance@wcpss.net). We’d love to talk to you more about Underwood! |
